“Poesy”, a reversal in cloth styling and the many layers of a woman’s prayer dress. The piece plays with the meaning and materiality in fabric and act of wearing. The four fabric layers— likened to pages of a book, each carry a different fragment of the same image, revealing and concealing in harmony, presenting a balance between concealment and exposure, performing the nature of ambiguity in poetry. The gentle shifts in fabric and form explore the intimacy and fluidity of devotion.

I hold this piece very close to my heart, as a woman that finds the duality in existing as a muslim woman, between two garments of a private nature ( devotion and intimates ) is often either viewed with such hostility and censored despite its truth of just being an everyday wear such as what one wears to prayer, just unseen - much like the idea of women's bodies being synonymous to being perceived as sin.
The show runs from 8 March onwards.
